Market Day in Berlin

With fresh radishes and so many other vegetables on display, who would refuse the opportunity to stop by the farmer's market in Berlin? Evidently, the people in town agree, because this place was bustling with customers. Kellie Voisine (above) was hardly able to spare a moment to talk to us between purchases.

"We're working all but two months out of the year," Kellie said, "and I have the farmer's tan to prove it!"

Harry's farm, where she works, is a mere six miles away from the market, which seems much more convenient than shipping produce halfway across the country. It's refreshing to see the way local food production and local economy are thriving here in Berlin - and it's drawing customers of all ages. Kellie also told us that, while the operation at Harry's farm isn't necessarily organic, they do reduce their usage of chemicals as much as possible. That means fresh, healthy produce made available to people in the area almost immediately. What a great way to get your food!

Also at the farmer's market were Butch selling blueberries, Linda with strawberry jams and cake, Jim and boxes full of crabs, and many other vendors. So if you happen to be staying in Berlin, stop by the farmer's market, and remember to get there early BEFORE they sell out!
