Millsboro's Cultural Festival

Sharing their age-old traditions, the Nanticoke Dancers strutted and twirled their regalia at the Big Thursday Festival in Millsboro. This weekend was all about bringing the festival atmosphere back to Millsboro, providing all sorts of activities for families and children in Cupola Park. "People are really busy these days," said Dave Jones, President of the GMCC. "It's good to remind them to slow things down and relax." It also allowed for community organizations to get together and show people they're working hard for the town.

New activities have been incorporated this year, the tractor-pull being only one of them.

Being an election year, political candidates not only want to be seen and educate citizens about their message, but also gain volunteers to help with their efforts. It's a perfect meet-and-greet environment. But more than that, it's probably the only place in the world where you can dunk politicians!

Maintaining and beautifying Cupola Park were the Millsboro Garden Club and Boy Scout Troop 89. "We think this is a nice event for the town," said Donna Rogers of the Garden Club. She and her compatriots put their horticultural skills together, creating plantings throughout the parks and streets of Millsboro and adding a flowery touch to the town. As for the Boy Scouts, who were selling popcorn at the festival, eagle scout Darin Troy was the young man responsible for the building and installation of the handicap wheelchair ramps which can be found throughout the park. That's part of the beauty of Millsboro; the community works together to improve their home because they love the place, not because some higher authority mandated it.

Who can forget 16 Mile Brewery? They showed their face at the festival as well, inviting Host Our Coast for a second round of beer tasting. All in all, between the fresh air, sunshine, cultural displays and barbecue cooking, this was a mighty fine day for some small town rest and relaxation.
