The Eastern Shore AFRAM Festival

It was like a Night at the Apollo during the 2010 Eastern Shore AFRAM Festival in Seaford Delaware as kids displayed their talents for an eager audience. Mildly nervousness at the start didn't prevent the child singers and performers from quickly getting into the groove, delivering stunning acts.

Millsboro's Cultural Festival

Sharing their age-old traditions, the Nanticoke Dancers strutted and twirled their regalia at the Big Thursday Festival in Millsboro. This weekend was all about bringing the festival atmosphere back to Millsboro, providing all sorts of activities for families and children in Cupola Park. "People are really busy these days," said Dave Jones, President of the GMCC. "It's good to remind them to slow things down and relax." It also allowed for community organizations to get together and show people they're working hard for the town.

Feeling Peachy In Berlin

As if art shows, a local farmer's market, and nearby kayaking trails weren't enough reasons to visit Berlin MD, last Sunday the town also held their annual Peach Festival, inviting hundreds of people to join in the celebration of fresh fruit and country living. Historically, Berlin had the largest peach nursery in the country, under the Harrison family, so if there's any place to hold a Peach Fest, it's here. Taking those hopes upon his shoulders, Rev. Sumner Jones presided over the blessing and homily. Of course, the day wasn't all somber, solemn prayer; after the blessing was said, there was plenty of time to party!

Castles in the Sands of Rehoboth

Shovel for shovel, hour after hour, detail grafted upon detail, sculptors on the beach worked and manipulated the moist sand into exquisite reliefs, fabricating astonishing intricacy for material so delicate. No artistic element was too small to be incorporated; stonework, facial expressions, archways and bridges could be seen, crafted from the granules to create castles and sculptures that would capture the amazements of passer-bys. This is how contestants of the Rehoboth Sandcastle Contest like it. Serious work. Even decorative embellishments such as real clamshells on a mermaid, or shiny oyster shells for dragon's eyes brought the sand-art to life. But aside from these little elements, everything you see here is bona fide SAND. No structural materials were added.
