We just visited two of Salisbury's most notable historic homes Pemberton Hall (circa 1741) and the Poplar Hill Mansion (circa 1795). Both homes have had extensive restoration and also have very friendly and knowledgable guides to give tours. Walk through history. Touch it. Hear it. See it. Smell it. And since you can't taste anything at these homes stop by Market Street Inn for a delicious meal. TIP: Try the key lime pie!

The Monster Mile with Segzone

[youtube:Nl0X53wPg6U] I have "See a NASCAR race" way up at the top of my bucket list. We just took a tour of the Dover International Speedway, affectionately referred to as the Monster Mile. The tour took us through all the VIP spots in this 500 million dollar venue. The winners podium, the garage, pit row, and even the press facility. Pretty cool right? Tough to make any cooler right? How about doing the the whole thing on a segway from Segzone?! Annnnnd wrapping up the tour with a full lap on the track at top segway speed...12.5mph! Not quite the 180mph that the stock cars are doing we had a tough time matching their pace of three laps a minute. It was so awesome! TIP: If going to the races tickles your fancy head over to the track for their upcoming Fall Triple Header Weekend September 29th- October 2.

The delmarva peninsula has more than it's fair share of craft brewers and I'm happy to report that collectively they're kicking butt! It only seems fitting that on this holiday weekend we should pay our resects to the day of labor with the world's best mistake, beer! Do yourself a favor. Swing by your local beer shop and pick up a six pack of something local and support the home team! TIP: Most of the local breweries offer tours & tastings. Delaware's 25th Annual Amish Country Bike Tour

[youtube:MosfsLf-b1M] Cruise through some of Delaware's most scenic areas and support five local organizations at 25th annual Amish Country Bike Tour this September 10th in Dover, Delaware. Early bird registration is over, but you can still ride with the nearly 1400 cyclists. And its ok if you're just in it for the pie, its amazing! TIPS: If you're bike needs a tune up, keep eyes peeled for Dave's Road Bikes, Inc. who will serve as the rolling bike shop the day of the event. Stop by Byler's for a fresh baked pie (hm hm...apple crumb) of your own or at Fifer Orchards to some delicious fresh produce or a romp through the corn maze!

Kiteboarding with East Of Maui

[youtube:URFHcpSebMA] Kiteboarding is a relatively new sport. It's roots touch on surfing, windsurfing and wakeboarding but there's one major addition. A huge kite! Kiteboarding is catching on here in delmarva in a big way and East Of Maui Surf Shop in Dewey Beach is leading the charge. They are the only shop in area to stock a full range of the equipment and offer private lessons at all levels. The wind season is about to kick in again so give them a shout and get in the game! TIP: I highly recommend Jaime, he's very friendly and knowledgable!

Wandering Through Western Wicomico

[youtube:YcFreELWqU4] Mardela Springs is an authentic small town. There's a bunch of unique things to do there. You can see an original Mason & Dixon marker and bone up on the local history at one of their historic museums or you can check out the nation's largest indoor coral farm. No joke! This little town has a lot to offer. And when you're done with your exploration, head over to the Sharptown Fireman's Carnival that runs through the entire month of August. You and your kin can ride any one of their antique carnival rides, play games, or even enter the raffle. And when you work up an appetite you have to try one of their oyster sandwiches. They're world famous!

The Delaware trail could have you strolling through parks, hiking through refuges, or gallivanting along old Native American settlements. Whether its a favorite pass time or a way to occupy the kids while waiting for the next event, geocaching is a great way to pass the time with the ones you love. REMEMBER: "Cache In - Trash Out" While it is expected that Geocachers will not leave trash in a geocache area, it goes beyond that. Geocachers strive to be good environmental stewards. Take along a plastic bag or two when you geocache. Collect any trash you might find along the way. Help improve the area.

Old Bay is here to stay!

Old Bay is a Chesapeake Bay tradition. Developed by a German immigrant named Gustav Brunn in the 1940's, the original idea was to pump local pub goers with free crabs (because they were so plentiful) covered in the delicious spicy salt to encourage them to buy more beverages. The seasoning is named after the Old Bay Line ferry that carried people from the Baltimore to Norfolk in the early 1900's. Half a century later the seasoning is synonymous with the region. Over the years people have gotten progressively more creative with its use. While you can still enjoy it at any crab shack on the Eastern Shore, we've photographed some of our favorite unconventional appearances of Old Bay over the last few months. From the steamed shrimp at Sneaky Pete's to Old Bay bagels from Uber Bagel, Herr's Old Bay potato chips (a staple at any respectable deli in the region), the Eastern Shore Martini ('Natty Bo' in an Old Bay rimmed martini glass) at Crabby Dick's, to the crab fondue from Pig and Fish we have indulged them all.

(and so was Dr. Suess) One of the many perks of the coolest job on the coast and also the one that we are most often reminded of is this simple fact. It's our job to drink beer. We checked out three stops on the Delaware Wine and Ale Trail, sampled the goods and made this to share with you guys. Delaware has lots of excellent local libations so get yourself out on the trail as often and as soon as you can. Cheers!

Heirloom Tomato Tasting at Furnace Town

[youtube:FQnDQ1B7_nA] Furnace Town Living Heritage Museum in Snow Hill, Maryland just hosted this years installment of their Annual Heirloom Tomato Tasting. There were 23 different types of heirloom tomatoes that were all grown either on site or by one of their board members. You can't get any fresher than that! It inspired us to write this little ditty which is pretty fresh in its own right.

It's a 12 acre zoo tucked in to Salisbury that houses over 110 animals from American alligators to flamingos and otters, ocelots and red wolves, two-toed sloths and jaguars, llamas, turtles, macaws, and the oldest living Andean bear in captivity. It's an incredible place.
