FACTS

Your Responsibilities
Explore everything from the beaches to the bays, and report back to Delmarva Low-Impact Tourism Experiences (DLITE)!

Our parks, small towns, museums, and heritage sites will give you plenty of content for your online video and photo gallery, and for your daily blog. You will work as DLITE's local travel journalist for summer 2010.

DLITE will provide you with a schedule of events, people, and places to visit in Delaware and on the Eastern Shores of Maryland and Virginia. Trips will certainly include kayaking, cycling, hiking, wildlife watching, beachcombing, and fishing - if it involves water and sun and fun - we want to involve you!

As DLITE's travel journalist, you will be required to provide the following each week for three months: five 2 to 3 minute online videos, two vlogs, daily blog posts (with responses), three photo posts, and online announcements of your activity through Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking sites.

Your Accommodations
While traveling between our parks, waterways, museums, and restaurants, you will be staying at some of Delmarva's finest hotels, bed & breakfasts, and campgrounds. Our accommodations will provide you with perfect places to start your mornings and rest & relax at night enjoying spectacular sunsets and fun-filled nightlife. And did we mention - you will be traveling and staying in these accommodations all summer for free?

Your Pay
Exploring Delmarva for three months as an online travel journalist is a pretty cool job, but you'll also be paid for your services - thanks to our sponsors, you will receive $15,000 for your three-month contract. You must provide your own transportation, meals, cameras, computer, and editing software, but we will provide you with supplies and mileage for your adventures.

Your Employer
You will report to Jim Rapp, Executive Director of DLITE, an organization representing a union of Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia businesses, conservation organizations, and local, state, and federal partners, which have formed an alliance to strengthen and promote low-impact, nature-based tourism on Delmarva. Low-impact tourism plans, manages and promotes the enjoyment and protection of the environment and local culture to generate income, employment, and the conservation and sustainability of local ecosystems.

The Selection Criteria
We are looking for a travel journalist with an adventurous spirit, passion for exploring our nature and heritage, and excellent on- and off-camera communication skills. DLITE will be selecting applicants based on:

  • Enthusiasm and entertaining personality
  • Creative use of online media and social networking sites
  • Presentation and media skills
  • Relevant experience
